Does your selfie app upload your face? What to check in a camera app’s privacy policy
A filter camera has to detect your face to place stickers and beauty. The question is where it does that: on your phone or on a server. The second question is what happens to the photo when you use AI features, which are almost always processed off the device.
What to check in the privacy policy: whether face detection is local; whether “face geometry” is stored or used for analytics; whether AI features upload the photo, how it travels and when it’s deleted; whether an account is required; and whether there are third-party ads, which are what track you.
In Selfiva, filters, beauty, stickers, editing and face detection run on your phone, with no internet. Only AI photo trends and “For you” styles upload the photo, encrypted, to our server; it’s processed and deleted when the result comes back, and we tell you before the first one. Your face geometry never leaves the phone. No account, no ads. Full policy on the app’s privacy page.
AI trends change the scene, clothes, light or era of your photo, not your identity; results vary with the selfie you take.
